SUBSTANTIAL ESCAPE OF WATER LOSS
Insurance for a large distribution centre in Northampton with a rebuild value in excess of £70million was placed on a co-insured basis with 3 different insurance companies. Following a major escape of water loss, my involvement resulted in identifying an error which had been made by the lead insurer in connection with the calculation of settlement, leading to a more favourable outcome for my client.
MAJOR FIRE LOSS
A major fire loss occurred at my client’s large retail unit in Northern Ireland, I initially expedited confirmation of lability from insurers. I then discussed with my client the options available. We decided to pursue a cash settlement rather than proceeding with reinstatement. I successfully negotiated a large cash settlement for my client.
HILTON HOTEL CLAIM
Following a major fire loss I was advised by the owners of the hotel that they didn’t wish to reinstate the part of the hotel which had been affected. On this basis I was instructed to negotiate and achieve a favourable settlement with the insurers. This settlement was agreed in a timely manner in order to avoid any further reduction in revenue in connection with loss of business. The funds received by the owner were utilised to re-model the hotel and refurbish the parts originally damaged by the fire.
BEEHIVE, LONDON W1
This property is a grade 2 listed building which houses a public house on the ground floor with residential accommodation on the upper parts of the building. The building was subject to a significant fire originating from the residential proportion of the property I dealt with the reinstatement works required to both the public house and the residential portions. The residential flats had been purchased on a buy-to-let basis and in addition to satisfying my client in respect of loss of rent, I was also able to deal with the individual flat owners and agree settlement in respect of their own loss of rental income while the premises were being repaired.
